History and Craft at the Original Artisan Fair in Merida, Mexico - October 12-16, 2026
Extend your Mexico journey after Design Week to attend the Original Artisan Fair with Heritage by Hand from October 12-16, 2026 to explore the cultural history and culinary richness of the city of Merida in the Yucatan.
In Merida, we will tour local museums, learn about local architecture, the importance of hennequen fiber production during Spanish colonial period and visit a family that makes tradiional pit barbeque dish called chinita pibil. We may even stop by a cenote for a look and a swim.
We will also visit local communities of hammock makers, talk with important designers reimagining local fibers in the region, and sample the thriving gastronomic scene. All of this before attending the opening day of the Original Artisan Market in Merida tos ee hundreds of regional artisans.
This extension is the perfect complement to the Mexico City Design Week trip or can be taken as a standalone experience.
General Information
The program fee includes all transportation in Merida, entrance fees to museums and events, one restaurant reservation deposit and speaking fees for artisan visits.
Participants will cover their own lodging costs, meals, and transfer to and from the airport.
You will arrive on Monday,October 12th (or continue from the Design Week trip), and our itinerary will begin that evening. Lodging recommendations will be provided so we are all in the same hotel.
We will have some flexibility in our routine to take advantage of opportunities that arise. There will be a decent, but not overly taxing, amount of walking (10,000 steps +/-), and participants should be aware of that.

Health and Activity Levels
There will be a decent, but not overly taxing, amount of daily walking (10,000+ steps), and participants should be aware of that. Merida is a tropical location so please be aware of the temperatures. We will have a packing list and suggestions to share with you before the trip.
