Mexico City Art Week and Zona Maco Art Fair February 3-7, 2027

From €528,95

Every February, Mexico City becomes the art capital of Latin America. Zona Maco — the largest and most important art fair in the region — draws galleries, collectors, designers, and cultural institutions from around the world for a week of extraordinary encounters with contemporary art, design, antiques, jewelry, fiber arts, and independent publishing. Heritage by Hand invites you to experience it all with us: the fair itself, the galleries, the museums, and the city that makes it all possible.

This trip pairs beautifully with our Chasing Monarchs: A Lakeside Retreat in the Mexican Highlands trip, February 8–12. Join us for both and we will all depart together for Valle de Bravo on the morning of February 8.

About Zona Maco

Zona Maco is divided into several sections: contemporary art, design, antiques, and a book fair. Alongside 2D and 3D artworks, the fair showcases furniture, decorative objects, jewelry, fiber arts, and independent publications. We attend the fair twice during the trip — once for the opening and once for a full afternoon visit. We recommend purchasing two single-day tickets rather than a five-day pass.

Itinerary

Wednesday, February 3 — Arrival & Zona Maco Opening
Arrive in Mexico City and settle into your apartment in the Hipodromo/Condesa neighborhood by Parque Mexico. In the afternoon we depart together for the opening of Zona Maco, where we have arranged a private tour of the fair. After the opening we return to the neighborhood for dinner together at a beloved local restaurant known for its rotating regional Mexican menus.

Thursday, February 4 — Downtown Museums & Art Week Evening Event
After an optional morning walk and breakfast in the neighborhood, we spend the morning visiting two of Mexico City’s finest museums in the historic center — one a world-class decorative arts collection housed in a stunning colonial building, the other a significant private museum focused on Mexican painting from the 18th century to the present. After lunch in the Juarez neighborhood, we attend one of Art Week’s main satellite events — a vibrant gathering of galleries and artists from across Latin America set in a remarkable architectural space. Dinner together in the neighborhood to close the day.

Friday, February 5 — San Miguel Chapultepec Galleries & Zona Maco
The morning is spent in the San Miguel Chapultepec neighborhood near Parque Chapultepec, visiting several of the city’s most important contemporary art galleries and design houses — including the first contemporary Mexican art gallery ever established in the country. After lunch in the neighborhood, we head to Zona Maco for a full afternoon at the fair. Translators are available if needed. The group splits for early dinner at two different restaurants before returning to the neighborhood.

Saturday, February 6 — Polanco Museums & Design Stores
Saturday morning takes us to Polanco for visits to two of the city’s leading contemporary art institutions — a major private museum with an always-intriguing exhibition schedule and a prominent gallery. After lunch near Parque Chapultepec, we visit several design stores in Polanco focused on collaborations between Mexican designers and artisan communities, with pieces ranging from fiber arts and handmade clothing to homewares. We return to the neighborhood in the late afternoon for a break before dinner together in Roma Norte.

Sunday, February 7 — Roma, Juarez, San Angel & Coyoacán
Our final full day begins with a walk through the Roma and Juarez neighborhoods — two of the city’s most vibrant districts for design, fashion, and independent shops. After lunch at a historic hacienda in San Angel, we visit the Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo studio museum across the street before heading to one of Mexico City’s finest contemporary art museums, set on the campus of the national university. We return to the neighborhood for a break before our closing dinner together facing Parque Mexico.

Monday, February 8 — Departure or Valle de Bravo
Those departing fly home from Mexico City. Those continuing join the Valle de Bravo group for departure to the Mexican Highlands and the Monarch Butterfly Biosphere Reserve.

Daily Rhythm

Each day follows a general structure with flexibility built in. An optional morning walk or run through the Hipodromo neighborhood — built around a historic velodrome and one of the city’s most beautiful green circuits — is available most mornings. Breakfast is optional and nearby. Mornings are reserved for galleries and museums; afternoons for the fair or further exploration. Dinner reservations are typically in the evening. At least one afternoon break is built into the week to rest, shop, or explore independently.

General Information

What the program fee covers: All ground transportation to and from events during the trip, a private tour at Zona Maco opening, a translator at the fair if needed, speaking fees for any artist visits or studio tours, and reservation deposits for two dinners.

What participants cover independently: International airfare to and from Mexico City, lodging (apartment recommendations in the Hipodromo/Condesa neighborhood will be provided so the group stays together), all meals, Zona Maco entrance fees, museum admissions, and airport transfers. Airport pickup can be arranged if several flights arrive close together.

You will arrive on the afternoon of Wednesday, February 3rd, and the itinerary begins that afternoon. We will have some flexibility in our routine to take advantage of opportunities that arise.

Pricing

$1,250 per person
Deposit: $600 due upon booking
Final payment: $650 due November 30, 2026
Maximum 11 guests. Trips typically host 6–8 participants.

Cancellation Policy

  • Cancel before November 1, 2026: full refund
  • Cancel after November 1, 2026: no refund

We strongly recommend purchasing travel insurance to protect your investment in the event of unforeseen circumstances.

Health and Activity Levels

There will be a moderate to significant amount of daily walking (10,000+ steps). Mexico City is a mile-high city — participants with altitude sensitivity may wish to arrive a day early to adjust. If you have not visited Mexico City and wish to see Teotihuacan or other sites, we suggest arriving early or staying an extra day. We are happy to help with recommendations.
