Lakeside at Valle de Bravo: Relaxing, Sailing and Horseback Riding to Monarch Butterfly Biosphere Reserve- February 8-12, 2027

Heritage by Hand invites you to join us on a trip to Valle de Bravo and the Piedra Herrera Biosphere Reserve, located about 3 hours west of Mexico City.

The trip will take place from Monday, February 8th to Friday, February 12th, 2027, with the option to depart from Mexico City either Friday afternoon the 12th or Saturday morning the 13th.

February is the height of the Monarch winter migration in Mexico, so the forest should be as full as can be, given that their numbers are dwindling. The Biosphere visit will involve some hiking into the forest or riding on horseback. Expect a three-hour round-trip hike or a slightly shorter horseback ride during our visit to the Biosphere.

We will stay in a lovely villa in Valle de Bravo with a view of the Lago Avándaro. We will have time to tour the village of Valle de Bravo, spend half of a day sailing and having lunch on the lake, relax and enjoy the surroundings and the view at our villa, and have a few evening fires with S'mores.

Maximum of 8 participants for Valle de Bravo. We have four double rooms.

The trip includes all transportation from Mexico City RT, all lodging and meals at our villa in Valle de Bravo, Biosphere entrance, horse ride, sailing trip, and guide costs. Airfare to Mexico, hotel and meals in Mexico City are not included. Tips for guides are not included.

If participants have not visited Mexico City and wish to see Teotihuacan, or other separate excursions, we suggest to stay an extra day or arrive early. 

Health and Activity Levels

There will be a decent, but not overly taxing, amount of walking (6-8,000+ steps) in Valle de Bravo, and participants should be aware of that. Valle de Bravo and Mexico City are mile-high cities, so participants should be aware of altitude changes and may want to arrive one day early to adjust if you have health concerns.

In Valle de Bravo, we will be hiking and the home is spread over various levels with staircases everywhere. Please keep your abilities in mind when booking.
