Mexico City Design Week Trip-October 8-13, 2025
Heritage by Hand founder, Heidi McKinnon, invites you to join her on a trip to Mexico City to visit Design Week Mexico, the largest art fair in Latin America, which will take place from October 8-13, 2025.
Design Week Mexico has events and venues across the city as well as open houses where we can visit contemporary art and design collectives, the Design House with rooms curated by dozens of Mexico's most innovative designers and a curated collection of up-and-coming young designers called Inedito .
When we aren't visiting Design Week venues, we will visit other local galleries, textile artists, and several museums in Mexico City. Aside from art and shopping, Mexico City is an international gastronomic reference. Heidi will choose both established and emerging restaurants that highlight the brilliance and artistry of local chefs working in this vastly multicultural, cosmopolitan city.
Total Cost: $1,050
Deposit: $500
Final Payment: $550 due August 1. A link will be sent for final payment.

Entrance fees to the Design House and museums and any incidentals that come up along the way will be the responsibility of each participant.
HbH is not a travel agency, so you will cover your own travel and lodging costs, all meals, and transfer to and from the airport. It will be possible to meet you at the airport if several flights arrive close to one another.
You will arrive on the afternoon of Wednesday, October 9th, and our itinerary will begin that evening with obligatory tacos in the neighborhood. A list of apartments in the Hipodromo region of Condesa, by Parque Mexico, will be provided so all participants stay in the same building, or close by.
We will have some flexibility in our routine to take advantage of opportunities that arise, however, the daily schedule will follow a basic structure.
Schedule
7-8 AM- Optional morning walk/run/get a juice time. It's a gorgeous neighborhood.
8-9ish AM- Breakfast (also optional for late sleepers) We have amazing options nearby.
9:30 AM- 12 PM or later- Design Week Events and Venues
12:30-2 PM- Lunch (optional and flexible, as we may not want to have three meals each day)
2-5 PM+- Visit to the museums and various galleries, textile artists, architectural sites, shopping.
For our afternoon museum and gallery visits, one day we will go downtown to see Museo Franz Meyer and Museo Kaluz, a new, private Mexican art museum.
Another afternoon will be spent in the San Miguel Chapultepec neighborhood near the park to have tours of Kurimanzutto, Galeria de Arte Mexicano (the first contemporary Mexican art gallery in Mexico), and possibly Luis Barragan's Casa Gilardi, and two other galleries in the neighborhood.
Over the weekend we will plan time in downtown Mexico City or another region of the city like San Angel or Coyoacan to visit several museums and local art fairs. Some museums we may consider are: Diego and Frida Studio Museum, Museo Frida Kahlo, Diego Rivera's Museo Anahuacallii, Museo de Arte Contemporaneo (MUAC is the UNAM university art museum), Casa del Lago, UNAM, or Dolores Olmedo.
5:30-7-Afternoon break- Rest, walk around the neighborhood, have a snack, enjoy the park, local shopping, etc.
7 PM or later- Dinner and sometimes an optional evening event like a jazz club, etc. In November, both Paul McCartney and The Cure were playing that weekend...
Health and Activity Levels
There will be a decent, but not overly taxing, amount of daily walking (10,000+ steps), and participants should be aware of that. Mexico City is a mile-high city, so participants should be aware of altitude changes and may want to arrive one day early to adjust if you have health concerns.
Arrive Wednesday, October 9th
Depart Monday, October 14th
Maximum of 9 participants
If participants have not visited Mexico City and wish to see Teotihuacan, or other separate excursions, we suggest to stay an extra day or arrive early.
