Mamai was founded in 2019 in Monterrey, Nuevo Léon, México, with the intention to ensure the continuity of some of the most celebrated artforms of Mexican artisanal production, such as hand painted ceramics from the state of Michoacán.
Capulineado pottery consists of a pointillist approach to creating small Capulín flowers and designs to adorn molcajetes, vases, and dinnerware. Each community and family has their own style, developed since its origins in the mid 1550s when the technique was introduced during the beginning of the Spanish conquest of México.
