Capula Ceramic Dinnerware

Our hand painted ceramic dinnerware collection is made in the mountains of Michoacán, México by the Neri family and others, who for generations have made glazed pottery in the "capulineado" style.

Capulineado pottery involves a pointillist approach to ceramic painting which developed at the time of Spanish contact in Michoacán when monasteries were being built and influenced ceramic production in the region.

The capulín design celebrates the Mexican cherry flower, or capulin, and dates to the mid 1550s. The designs are typically painted in solid colors, predominantly pastels, with small contrasting or white accents to resemble the shape of these ubiquitous spring flowers. Great for special al fresco summer dinner or daily use if you like.

Heritage by Hand artisanal hand painted dinnerware is lead-free. Our dinnerware is heated twice in the kiln, the first at 800 C and the second at 950 C.

Each set includes a dinner plate, salad plate, bowl, cup and saucer, salsa bowl and spoon, and a napkin ring. Eight colorways are available.

 Full sets  are by special order only. Each piece can be purchased individually. Colors vary and can be designed for your needs.
