Mathias Lacquered Gourds

From our partner in Mexico City, Onora, we are thrilled to carry these lacquered and gilded gourds are each hand made by master artisan Cristobal Santos Diaz in his family run workshop located in the mountainside village of Temalacatzingo, Guerrero. The gourds are grown, dried, carved, cleaned, and then covered with several layers of lacquer made of hand-ground mineral powders and chia seed oil. The interior of each gourd is layered with copper or gold leaf.
