Anima Candelabra
Our Anima Candelabra is made in the central cloud forest region of Veracruz by skilled artisans from a Totonac community who are working to return to traditional forms and designs. Limited access to external markets outside of their small community shifted the work that they were able to create. With the help of our partner, Casa de la Cruz, in expanding their markets, these master artisans are returning to the burnished ceramics they are known for making.
The Anima is designed after the marigold flowers (cempasuchitl) that are so widely used during Day of the Dead in Mexico. Three handmade candles come with each candelabra.
Rituality, Beauty and Permanence
Our partner, Casa de la Cruz, works hand in hand with artisans in the creation of objects that reflect the cultural diversity of Veracruz. The initiative was born in response to the need to reactivate artisanal production in the communities, to generate productive supply chains, as well as preserving and disseminating the cultural and artisanal heritage of Veracruz.
Casa de la Cruz collaborates with artisans from more than 20 communities located from the coast to the mountains; creators whose expertise, life stories, commitment, and dedication, place them as bearers of a cultural tradition, a resistance front against the disappearance of this legacy.
Our Casa de la Cruz collection is the result of traditional artisan techniques, from the use of materials obtained in a responsible way, ensuring their permanence for the future, to the contemporary design processes and horizontal collaboration based on respect and dialogue. Authentic objects, made in an ethical and sustainable way, taking as inspiration beauty, traditions, stories, and the natural and cultural heritage of Veracruz.
