Chichiltik

An extraordinary sarape, handwoven on a pedal loom in Tlaxcala, Mexico. An all-over field of interlocking zigzags in red, teal, pink, sky blue, and cream creates a vibrating, luminous ground — a technical feat of the highest order. At the center, a spectacular nested diamond medallion in navy, pink, teal, and red anchors the composition. Long twisted fringe completes the piece. Naturally dyed throughout. Design and dye work by Ignacio Netzahualcoyotl, 2021 winner of the Grand Prize for Mexican Traditional Patrimony. Woven by Sarah Netzahualcoyotl.
