Mexico City Art Week and Zona Maco Art Fair February 3-7, 2027

Heritage by Hand invites you to join us on a trip to Mexico City to visit Zona Maco, the largest art fair in Latin America, which will take place from February 3-7, 2027 during Art Week in Mexico City. There is an option for an extension trip to Valle de Bravo and the Piedra Herrera Biosphere Reserve on our travel page.

Zona Maco is divided into various sections including contemporary art, design, and antiques. Aside from contemporary 2D and 3D artworks, the event comprises collections of furniture, decoration, jewelry, and fiber arts. There is also generally a publications section for small presses to share their work.

To complement our time at Zona Maco, we will visit local galleries, textile artists, and several museums in Mexico City. Aside from art and shopping, Mexico City is an international gastronomic reference. We will choose both established and emerging restaurants that highlight the brilliance and artistry of local chefs working in this vastly multicultural, cosmopolitan city.

Zona Maco Details

The program fee includes transportation to and from events, a translator if needed during our visits to Zona Maco, any speaking fees for artists who will visit with us or studio tours that we may do, and deposits for dinner at two restaurants. Entrance fees to the Fair and museums and any incidentals that come up along the way will be the responsibility of each participant.

HbH is not a travel agency, so you will cover your own travel and lodging costs, all meals, and transfer to and from the airport. It will be possible to meet you at the airport if several flights arrive close to one another.

You will arrive on the afternoon of Wednesday, February 3rd, and our itinerary will begin that evening with obligatory tacos in the neighborhood. A list of apartments in the Hipodromo region of Condesa, by Parque Mexico, will be provided so all participants stay in the same building, or close by.

We will have some flexibility in our routine to take advantage of opportunities that arise, however, the daily schedule will follow a basic structure.

Zona Maco Schedule

7-8 AM- Optional morning walk/run/get a juice time. It's a gorgeous neighborhood.

8-9ish AM- Breakfast (also optional for late sleepers) We have amazing options nearby.

9:30 AM- 12 PM or later- Visit to the museums and various galleries, textile artists, architectural sites, shopping.

For our morning museum and gallery visits, one day we will go downtown to see Museo Franz Meyer and Museo Kaluz, a new, private Mexican art museum.

Another day will be spent in the San Miguel Chapultepec neighborhood near the park to have tours of Kurimanzutto, Galeria de Arte Mexicano (the first contemporary Mexican art gallery in Mexico), Luis Barragan's Casa Gilardi if available and two other galleries in the neighborhood.

A third day, we will visit Polanco to see the Museo Jumex, Proyectos Monclova, and have lunch near Parque Chapultepec.

12:30-2 PM- Lunch (optional and flexible, as we may not want to have three meals each day)

2-5 PM+- Zona Maco Art Fair (Wednesday opening night and Friday only, unless we need more than 6-7 hours at the fair. We may choose to extend our morning gallery visits, have lunch, and attend the fair from 3-6 PM some days.)

Over the weekend we will plan time in downtown Mexico City or another region of the city like San Angel or Coyoacan to visit several museums and local art fairs. Some museums we may consider are: Diego and Frida Studio Museum, the recently opened Museo Casa Kahlo, Diego Rivera's Museo Anahuacalli, Museo de Arte Contemporaneo (MUAC is the UNAM university art museum) or Casa del Lago, UNAM. I will design the itinerary around the group's interests.

5:30-7- Afternoon break- Rest, walk around the neighborhood, have a snack, enjoy the park, local shopping, etc. We won't have a break every day, but at least 1-2.

5:30 PM or later- Dinner times will vary depending on the restaurants. Those with Michelin stars obviously have more demand and we may have to eat early one or two days.

I will choose restaurants so you have a range of established and up-and-coming restaurants. All are delicious.

Health and Activity Levels

There will be a decent, but not overly taxing, amount of daily walking (10,000+ steps), and participants should be aware of that. Mexico City is a mile-high city, so participants should be aware of altitude changes and may want to arrive one day early to adjust if you have health concerns.

In Valle de Bravo, we will be hiking and the home is spread over various levels with staircases everywhere. Please keep your abilities in mind when booking.

Maximum of 11 guests. Trips usually have 6-8 participants.

If participants have not visited Mexico City and wish to see Teotihuacan, or other separate excursions, we suggest to stay an extra day or arrive early. We can help with that, too.
