Mexico City Design Week October 7-12, 2026
Heritage by Hand invites you to join us in Mexico City for Design Week Mexico, October 7-12, 2026 — one of the most exciting weeks of the year in one of the world’s great design capitals.
Design Week Mexico transforms the city into a living exhibition. Events and open houses unfold across neighborhoods, the iconic Design House showcases rooms curated by dozens of Mexico’s most innovative designers, and Inedito spotlights emerging talent worth watching. It’s immersive, inspiring, and unlike most design fairs you’ve attended.
Between Design Week venues, we’ll visit galleries, textile artists, and museums that reveal the deeper layers of Mexico City’s creative culture. And because this is a Heritage by Hand trip, we’ll eat very well — at both established institutions and the kind of up-and-coming restaurants that remind you why Mexico City is considered one of the world’s great gastronomic cities.
Total Cost: $1,200
Deposit: $600
Final Payment: $600 due June 1.
This trip pairs beautifully with our History and Craft at the Original Artisan Fair in Merida, October 12-16 — continue straight from Design Week into the Yucatan for an immersive artisan experience. Many guests choose to do both.
Details
The program fee includes transportation to and from events, a translator if needed during our visits to Design Week Mexico, any speaking fees for artists who will visit with us or studio tours that we may do, and deposits for dinner at two restaurants. Entrance fees to the Design House and museums and any incidentals that come up along the way will be the responsibility of each participant.
HbH is not a travel agency, so you will cover your own travel and lodging costs, all meals, and transfer to and from the airport. It will be possible to meet you at the airport if several flights arrive close to one another.
You will arrive on the afternoon of Wednesday, October 7th, and our itinerary will begin that evening with tacos in the neighborhood. A list of apartments in the Hipodromo region of Condesa, by Parque Mexico, will be provided so all participants stay in the same building, or close by.
We will have some flexibility in our routine to take advantage of opportunities that arise, however, the daily schedule will follow a basic structure.
Schedule
7-8 AM- Optional morning walk/run/get a juice time. It’s a gorgeous neighborhood.
8-9ish AM- Breakfast (also optional for late sleepers) We have amazing options nearby.
9:30 AM- 12 PM or later- Design Week Events and Venues
12:30-2 PM- Lunch (optional and flexible, as we may not want to have three meals each day)
2-5 PM+- Visit to the museums and various galleries, textile artists, architectural sites, shopping.
For our afternoon museum and gallery visits, one day we will go downtown to see Museo Franz Meyer and Museo Kaluz, a new, private Mexican art museum.
Another afternoon will be spent in the San Miguel Chapultepec neighborhood near the park to have tours of Kurimanzutto, Galeria de Arte Mexicano (the first contemporary Mexican art gallery in Mexico), and possibly Luis Barragan’s Casa Gilardi, and two other galleries and designers in the neighborhood.
Over the weekend we will plan time in downtown Mexico City or another region of the city like San Angel or Coyoacan to visit several museums and local art fairs. Some museums we may consider are: Diego and Frida Studio Museum, Museo Frida Kahlo, Diego Rivera’s Museo Anahuacallii or Museo de Arte Contemporaneo (MUAC is the UNAM university art museum).
5:30-7- Afternoon break- Rest, walk around the neighborhood, have a snack, enjoy the park, local shopping, etc.
7 PM or later- Dinner and sometimes an optional evening event like a jazz club.
Health and Activity Levels
There will be a decent, but not overly taxing, amount of daily walking (10,000+ steps), and participants should be aware of that. Mexico City is a mile-high city, so participants should be aware of altitude changes and may want to arrive one day early to adjust if you have health concerns.
Arrive Wednesday, October 7th
Depart Monday, October 12th
Maximum of 11 guests. Trips usually have 6-8 participants.
If participants have not visited Mexico City and wish to see Teotihuacan, or other separate excursions, we suggest to stay an extra day or arrive early.
