Mexico City Original Textile Fair-November 27-30th, 2026

$600.00

Join Heritage by Hand from November 27-November 30th, 2026 as we visit Mexico City's premier textile and handmade event, Original. Original 2026 is the sixth edition of the event, which was developed to support and celebrate the mastery and intellectual property rights of Mexican artisans.

This trip is intentionally scheduled right after Thanksgiving — a perfect way to start the holiday season with something meaningful, beautiful, and far from the ordinary.

We will attend Original twice over the weekend for several hours. We will also walk through the neighborhood of San Miguel Chapultepec to see standout Mexican design houses and art galleries, visit at least two museums in San Angel and downtown Mexico City, including the new Frida Kahlo museum, Museo Casa Kahlo.

Aside from art, cultural heritage and shopping, Mexico City is an international gastronomic reference. We have chosen both established and emerging restaurants that highlight the brilliance and artistry of local chefs working in this vastly multicultural, cosmopolitan city.

General Information

The program fee includes transportation to and from events, a translator if needed during the Original Textile Fair so we can all follow our interests, speaking fees for artists who will visit with us or studio tours that we may do.

Participants will cover their own travel and lodging costs, most meals, and transfer to and from the airport.

You will arrive on the afternoon of Friday, November 27th, and our itinerary will begin that evening. A list of apartments in Parque Mexico will be provided so all participants are in the same location.

We will have some flexibility in our routine to take advantage of opportunities that arise, however the daily schedule will follow a basic structure. There will be a decent, but not overly taxing, amount of walking (10,000 steps +/-), and participants should be aware of that.

Please write for detailed itinerary.

Original Textile Fair Dates:

Friday November 27-Monday, November 30, 2026

Departure is Tuesday, December 1st

Pricing:

$1,200 (Deposit $600)

Deposits due by March 30th

Final payments due August 30th

Maximum of 11 guests. Trips usually have 6-8 participants.

This trip pairs beautifully with our Puebla and Tlaxcala Textiles trip, December 1-5 — arrive in Mexico City for Original, then continue on to Puebla for an immersive textile journey. Many guests choose to do both.

Mexico City Schedule

7-8 AM- Optional morning walk/run/get a juice time. It's a gorgeous neighborhood.

8-9ish AM- Breakfast (also optional for late sleepers) We have amazing options nearby.

9:30 AM- 12 PM or later- Original Textile Fair or planned studio or neighborhood visits

12:30-2 PM- Lunch (optional and flexible, as we may not want to have three meals each day)

2-5 PM+- Visit to the museums and various galleries, textile artists, architectural sites, shopping.

For our afternoon museum and gallery visits, one day we will go downtown to see Museo Franz Meyer or Museo Kaluz, a new, private Mexican art museum.

Another afternoon will be spent in the San Miguel Chapultepec neighborhood near the park to have tours of Kurimanzutto, Galeria de Arte Mexicano (the first contemporary Mexican art gallery in Mexico), and possibly Luis Barragan's Casa Gilardi, and two other galleries and designers in the neighborhood.

Over the weekend, we will plan time in San Angel or Coyoacan to visit several museums and local art fairs. Some museums we may consider are: Diego and Frida Studio Museum, Museo Frida Kahlo, Diego Rivera's Museo Anahuacallii or Museo de Arte Contemporaneo (MUAC is the UNAM university art museum).

5:30-7- Afternoon break- Rest, walk around the neighborhood, have a snack, enjoy the park, local shopping, etc.

7 PM or later- Dinner and sometimes an optional evening event like a jazz club.

Health and Activity Levels

There will be a decent, but not overly taxing, amount of daily walking (10,000+ steps), and participants should be aware of that. Mexico City is a mile-high city, so participants should be aware of altitude changes and may want to arrive one day early to adjust if you have health concerns.
